"My idea for the Pittsburgh G-20 Summit is to start a student ambassador program…where a group of students would go to the Summit [and]…write about the experience for the benefit of students all over the world. The purpose would be to educate the next generation so an economic crisis would never happen again. If this program were to begin in Pittsburgh, it could be continued at G-20 Summits in the future with new groups of students contributing to the global economic lessons learned from this important Summit.”
- Catherine McAnney, 10th grader, Pine-Richland High School

Student Ambassadors to the Pittsburgh G-20 Summit
Below is a brief video presentation by Catherine McAnney:
The "Student Ambassadors to the Pittsburgh G-20 Summit" program would enable a group of local students, representing a diverse swath of high schools from the Pittsburgh region, to attend portions of the Summit and report on its proceedings in order to educate students from the region—as well from around the world—about issues discussed at the Summit. The students’ writings and video projects would appear on the World Affairs Council’s website, wiki site, and its blogs. In addition to connecting with various media networks, the students’ products would be disseminated through partner organizations, such as iEARN (International Education and Resource Network), which is the world’s largest non-profit global network that enables teachers and youth from around the globe to engage in online collaborative projects.

This idea was presented to the World Affairs Council by a local high school student, Catherine McAnney. The World Affairs Council enthusiastically supports Catherine’s idea and would act as the sponsoring organization.
